Technology in Education: CONNECT 2015

04 May 2015|Hannah Olson

CONNECT 2015, the largest education technology conference in Canada. Held from May 5th to 8th at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, the event brought together professionals from across the education sector to discuss best practices for integrating new technologies into classrooms, workplaces and libraries.

More than 1600 participants attended the conference, including teachers, principals, IT professionals and CIOs. It was great to meet people working on all levels of their school boards, some of whom had traveled from as far away as North Bay, Ottawa and Windsor.

FrontRow had an exhibit at CONNECT 2015, which gave us a chance to share our classroom and campus solutions with the attendees. People were very interested to hear about accelerating everyday learning and building a safer, more efficient campus with our networked technology.

The conference featured dozens of thought-provoking presentations, which ranged from technology in kindergarten to online skills support for new postsecondary students. There were also sessions and workshops for executives, IT professionals and members of the school library community. Everyone working in education – no matter what their role – had a chance to learn something new.

One of the highlights of CONNECT was the talk by keynote speaker Eric Sheninger, who inspired us to adopt a new perspective on the role of technology in the education sector. An award-winning administrator and blogger, as well as the author and co-author of three books, he specializes in using social media and web 2.0 technology as tools for learning and building relationships with community members and stakeholders. You can find some of the key points from his presentation on his Digital Leadership Pinterest page.

Overall, CONNECT 2015 was a very successful conference. Thank you to everyone who came to our presentation. We really enjoyed hearing about your experiences with students and adult learners, and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2016!
